Laura & Maryanne's class trip to the CT Children's Museum
Laura & Maryanne’s K/1 class had a wonderful time at the Connecticut Children’s Museum on Thursday! There were endless opportunities to explore materials and ideas! Thank you to the chaperones: Wendy Garcia (Isabel’s mom), Dana Small (Darwin’s mom), Eileen Reach (John’s mom), Peter Crumlish (Finn’s dad), and Mette Feinleib (Ingrid’s grandmother).

Joshua and Rachael’s 4/5 continued their study of the genre of historical fiction in Literature Circle groups this past week.

Auction 2012 Now on the Website
Auction 2012 is barely three months away and the Committee is working hard to make this event a fitting celebration for our 30th Anniversary and a successful fundraiser. Now you can download and print donation forms, find tips for solicitations and even find a form letter to use for solicitations right from our website. There is a link called "Auction 2012" on the homepage. Check it out!

4/5 Class Trip to Ellis Island
4/5 CLASS NEWS In anticipation of the 4/5 class trip to Ellis Island on March 21, the 4/5 classes are looking for chaperones. There will be a sign-up sheet in both classrooms on Monday, February 6; four parent chaperones are needed from each classroom. Thank you!

Ski Trip to Mt. Southington POSTPONED
The 4th-6th grade ski trip that was originally scheduled for this Friday, January 27, has been postponed due to the warm weather, and the predicted rain on Friday. The trip will take place next Friday, February 3.

Library "Thank You"
A big “thank you” to Jessica Burke and Lucas LaCroix for their generous book donations. The library is excited to add The Calder Game by Blue Balliett, Flush by Carl Hiaasenand and a number of Tintin books to their collection.

SKI TRIP TO MOUNT SOUTHINGTON
The 4th, 5th & 6th grade ski trip to Mount Southington is next Friday, January 27th. All forms must be turned in to Gerry by Tuesday, January 24th!

Community Building Presentation
Architect Turner Brooks will be presenting plans for the proposed multi-purpose Community Building at a breakfast on Thursday, January 26 and Thursday, February 2 at 8:30. Please rsvp to MaryAnn at the front desk or Paula at pcoyne@coldspringschool.org. The presentation and Q & A period should last a little over an hour but feel free to drop in for any part of the presentation.

Birthday Book for Benjamin
The kids in Amy & Alyson's K/1 are very excited about the birth of Brianna's son, Benjamin Richard. They have made Benjamin a birthday book to mail to Brianna!

Bridge Building
In anticipation of the March 21st trip to Ellis Island and the Tenement Museum, students in Joshua and Rachael's 4/5 have been concentrating their thematic studies on the great wave of immigration into New York City between 1880 and 1920.

New Trees Planted at CSS
In early November, the Urban Resource Initiative planted two Gingko trees and one Zelkova serrata along the sidewalk parallel to the Pear Tree Yard and The Studio.

30th Anniversary Auction
You probably couldn’t help but notice the carousel horse that appeared in the lobby this week. But, perhaps you’re not sure why it’s there? The 30th Anniversary Auction is a bit over four months away (save the date: Saturday, May 19) and donations are needed. Donation forms can be picked up from “the horse” and dropped off there, too.

Winter Concert
Many thanks to the faculty, staff, and especially the children involved in creating the winter concert. The concert really demonstrated the ever present spirit of cooperation and community at Cold Spring School.

Our little darlings did an amazing job singing their Snowman Song in front of the entire school during the Winter Concert. Bravo!
