The Dig Site
The archeologists dig a hole for a dig site. They mark out the hole with ropes to set up a square called a quadrat. They dig down carefully so they could learn about what people had back then, to learn about their history and how they lived. We saw a dig site at the Whitfield Museum. They knew there was once a barn attached to the Whitfiel house because they found a picture of the house with a barn right next to it. They started to dig and found pottery shards and small bones like chicken bones. Even these few things so far tell the archeologists a lot about the people who lived here. |
