The sun was setting as the Pequots were going inside their wigwams in which they would spend the night. I was walking as to my wigwam as well. It was going to be a very long night for all of us; it has been for the last few days because Sassacus and the army left. We were all worrying if the army if the would return, and if the English would attack when our soldiers were away. When I finally fell asleep I was awoken with the noise of horse hooves against the ground. I waited in my wigwam with a spear that Sassacus had given me before he left. As I waited, the horse hooves passed and got quieter and quieter. And finally there was silence. I put away my spear and went back to sleep thinking that it might have been a hunting party of Niahantus.
When I awoke, it was early morning. Sassacus was still not here with the army, which meant that it would be another long night. I grabbed my fishing spear to look for fish. I walked over to the ocean and watched in silence waiting for a fish to appear. I spotted a flounder and launched my spear. The fish laid on the surface. I picked up the fish and brought it to the front of my wigwam and skinned it with my knife. I started a fire and cooked the fish. In ten long minutes, the fish was finally cooked. I saw my friend Laracus doing the same. I sliced the flounder and ate it. Sassacus still hasn't returned I worried that the English might attack when the army isn't here. I started walking towards the ocean to get a drink when out of the corner of my eye I saw someone hiding behind some trees. He looked like he was Mohegan, which meant that the Mohegans were going to attack soon, and possibly team up with the English. Luckily the Mohegan didn't know that I saw him. I froze for a moment but quickly regained my senses and continued walking towards the shore. As I was walking back to my wigwam with a bucket of water, I was wondering if I should try to get information by following him perhaps he could lead me to his tribe. Then I could see if the Mohegans were going to attack with the English. As I began walking to Lararus' house, I met him walking towards my house. I grabbed him by the shoulder and turned him around to talk to me when I saw the concerned look on his face. "What's going on?" I asked Laracus. "I saw an Englishman," he said. "I saw a Mohegan," I said. So maybe they're teaming up against us. They probably are. Or maybe not, maybe they're both planning to attack without knowing the other is. If they are going to attack today, then they will catch us without us being able to fight back.
BANG! I went quickly outside to see what the noise was. In the distance, I saw a row of about 70 horses and 40 people. The horses had guns and the people and spears! It must be the English and the Mohegans. The horses got bigger and bigger and soon you could see the men mounted on them. The next shot went to someone outside who quickly fell to the ground as he was killed. Laracus and I went out of the back of his wigwam and found that there were 20 more Mohegans in front of us. We ran back inside the wigwam and watched through the doorway as the Mohegans went to the other side of the wigwam. They set fire to the wigwams while a lot of mothers, fathers and children were still sleeping. We dashed outside through the back gate of the palisade and ran away from the village. BANG! Laracus was shot in the head! I rushed over to him. He was already dead. I continued running and no one was following me.
I followed the route that Sassacus took hoping to meet up with him. But until I did, I knew I'd have to hunt by myself. I found a clear space in the forest to sleep. I hunted and caught dinner. I made a fire and cooked the food. When the food was done, I ate some of it and saved the rest for breakfast and maybe lunch the next day. When I awoke, the forest was silent. I got up and had breakfast. Soon, I was back on my feet. I started running so I could catch up to Sassacus sooner. After what seemed like an hour of running I went hunting again. This time it took me an hour to find any decent food. I cooked the food over a fire, and ate it as I walked. I figured that I was seven days from Sassacus. I rested for fifteen minutes and then kept going. I got tired after two more hours, so I sat down for fifteen minutes and then hunted for dinner. Eventually I found some food. I cooked it and then ate it. I went to sleep after I finished dinner. I awoke with raccoon eyes looking straight at me. It ran away into the forest. I got up and started walking without breakfast. I had been walking for about an hour when I heard a noise that sounded like someone walking. I stopped walking, but I still heard the noise. I looked around but I didn't see anyone. I started walking again and someone jumped on me from behind. I fell down and started rolling.
Once I got up, I didn't know which direction I was facing, so I decided to go left. I ended up going towards the peninsula. I tried to turn but Uncas was behind me, he made sure that I could only run towards the peninsula. When I was there I tried to cut across through the water. I swam on a 10-degree angle towards the right Uncas caught up to me with an English sword. I stabbed him in the arm with my spear. He swung his sword.
