The early Guilford Colonists built this corner window so they could look out into the harbor and check to see if they were being attacked. |
We went to the Whitfield Museum and had lots of fun. The building was big, very old, and made of stone. It had three floors full of interesting things from the colonial period. It was built to be large on purpose. They used it for protection and everyone in town had to fit in. They built this window on the corner of the house so they could look out into the harbor to see if any enemies were coming to attack.
In the visitor center, they had a piece of the Charter Oak Tree. That was very special. This charter is was important because it was like a constitution for Connecticut and they hid it in the tree so the King couldn't get it back.
Each room in the house had huge fireplaces with lots of interesting in each room.
You can even go to the attic. It had lots of things like a loom machine, spinning wheels, guns, gun powder horns, and a large clock. We played a fun game that the museum guide gave us. It had names and pictures from each room that we had to find. It was helpful to learn more about the house because it helped you find places and things. I definitely recommend that if you are studying about Guilford Colony, you should go here. The tour guide was very nice and they had a really cool museum and book store.
| At the museum we were given games to search for different things. It helped us to learn a lot about the museum. | ![]() |
