Cold Spring School Student ProjectsThe students at Cold Spring School are involved in many special projects, including building the Web pages for the projects seen in many of the following links. Art GalleryArt projects at Cold Spring School combine instructionusing multi-media in two- and three-dimensional formwith a child’s sense of personal expression. Projects are developed through a collaboration between the art teacher and classroom teachers. GardenAfter a year of planning, the Garden Project got off the ground in the spring of 2004. Each classroom plus art and music has a bed for planting. Children were taught how to transplant seedlings, sow seeds, and water effectively. The plantings this spring and summer were as varied as the individual classroom themes and included a butterfly garden, a garden of gourds to be used as musical instruments, and a Monet-inspired garden. History & WritingCome visit the 2/3 class poetry project. Our older students have research information on local Connecticut history. By visiting historical homes, searching through historical documents at historical societies, and interviewing various historians, our older students have developed a wonderful resource for all Connecticut students. The 4/5 and 5/6 Spanish classes have written some stories in Spanish. Science & TechnologyTechnology is a tool to be used creatively, flexibly and purposefully. At Cold Spring School, technology is integrated into the curriculum to facilitate learning. As children progress through the grades, they learn to use the internet to research and publish their work, they become competent with presentation software and keyboarding skills. Take a look at some of the ways our students use technology! |
Cats on a RugKindergarten and first-grade students experimented with shape and pattern using oil pastels and watercolor to produce their drawings of a cat on a rug. See more cats in the Art Gallery. |
