“Director” Charley Tiernan

On Wednesday, November 5, Charley Tiernan was Cold Spring’s Director for the Day. She did a lot of different things like announced birthdays at school meeting, wrote emails to the teachers, and read two stories to the Preschool class. Charley’s favorite thing was pulling the fire alarm for the fire drill. She also had a meeting with K/1 students Simon Asnes and Mikhaela Friedland about what they like about school and what they might change. Charley learned a lot from her day as the director. She said, “Jeff’s day is very busy!”

Grandparent’s and Special Friend’s Day Reminder

Grandparent’s and Special Friend’s Day is on Monday and Tuesday, November 24 and 25. Please give MaryAnn the names of your child’s grandparents or special friends so she can send them an invitation.

The Book Fair Is Coming

Our annual Book Fair will be held Tuesday, December 2 through Friday, December 5 in our new space at 68 James Street. Volunteers are needed for set-up, sales and pack up. Watch for sign-up sheets in the front hall.

There is still space available in both parent education sessions on Wednesday, November 19 and Tuesday, December 2. You can sign up by e-mailing Paula at pcoyne@coldspringschool.org or you can sign up with MaryAnn at the front desk.

Preschool News

The preschoolers did a fantastic job performing their Gray Squirrel song in front of the entire school last week. The teachers were so proud of them. The class pets have finally arrived! The preschool class now has two African swimming frogs. On Election Day students voted for names and decided on Nemo and Toadie. Come by and see them anytime.

The preschool class is looking for travel posters for their dramatic play airport. If you have any that you would like to donate the class would really appreciate it.

K/1 Class News

Laura and Becca’s K/1 class has a new pet — an African Clawed Frog! Stop by the classroom to see her!

The students used some of the Golden Delicious and Cameo apples from their trip to Norton Bros. Fruit Farm to make delicious baked apples. Plain, or with butter, brown sugar, and raisins — they were yummy!

Spanish News

The 5/6 class will be going on a field trip to Hartford to watch a dance from Spain on November 13th. Esta presentación muestra la expresión artística de las zarzuelas españolas, los bailes regionales y el flamenco.

Art Room News

The art room is looking for small scraps of wood and toilet paper rolls. In addition, does any one know a nice telephone repair man with extra materials? We would love to have a large amount of plastic coated wire for Galimoto (African wire sculpture) projects.

Thank You

Laura and Becca’s K/1 class and Luz would like to thank Adriana Rubinstein, mother of Joaquin Bellomio, for helping to cook el “Sancocho” on October 27th.

Laura and Becca’s K/1 students thank Nicole Cohen and her family for letting them borrow their apple peeler/corer while preparing baked apples.

Penny’s and Gretta’s 2/3 class thanks Victoria and her family for giving their class many Ziva Paper White Narcissus and they also thank Martin and his family for giving them the game Sequence (States and Capitals).
